This has become quite the fad that spreads from suburban town to suburban town all over the United States. Good indicators include perfectly symmetrical [dread]locks, stupid looking beads on them, one or more article of clothing that is red, green and gold, glazed eyes and a severe case of the munchies. You can usually catch one of these at your local parties most likely drinking a red stripe.
Members of this circle all coincidentally have an obsession over Reggae music. Don't get me wrong, I love reggae music as much as the next person, but I can not really relate to the lyrical content that the majority of reggae music portrays. These "Rastas" obviously know about the hardships and tribulations of those living in the extremely impoverished ghettos and feel a strong connection with them, as the trust fund Rastafarians commonly referred to as Trustafarians, know extremely well.
Did you know that 1% of the Jamaican population are actual Rastafarian? and did you know that in each suburban town .2-1% of the population are Rastafarian? Amazing, huh? Obviously the strife in suburbia has significantly become worse, maybe due to the constant socio-economic oppression from "Babylon." *Cough.thewest.Cough*
Caucasian Rastafarians are the appitomy of hypocrites. According to the Rastafari doctorines, one should abstain from alcohol as once again, it's a product of babylon. What they do follow strictly about the religon is the smoking of herbs and the meditiation involved when they do. These people stay meditating, at school, driving to work, driving to a party, while in a state of drunken debochary (most likely to repent for sins), and pretty much anytime in between.
Blind faith for the man Haile Selassie, who doesn't even endorse this religon whatsoever.
White Rastafarians are ignorant even though follow a culture other than their own. Not all these "Rastas" are like this though and I am just generalizing, but they make up a minority of those that follow. My thumbs up to those followers, who don't drink, smoke (and auctally meditate), politcally aware, eat "ital" and don't try to make a point about themselves by wearing Jamacian/Rastafarian/Ethopia colored clothing.
Boliva called, they want their colors back.
